Colon Maldonado runs to third-place finish in 10,000 meter at NCAA Outdoor Championship

Aurora University track and field senior Deedee Colon Maldonado added to her lengthy list of career accomplishments on Thursday in the 10,000-meter run at the 2025 NCAA Division III Outdoor Championship in Geneva, Ohio.

Colon Maldonado was patient early in the longest race of the Championships maintaining a position between seventh and 10th place over the first 13 split times. She then made a move at the 5600 meter mark, vaulting up to fourth place and showing the field she was a huge player in the race. With 1,600 meters left in the race, Colon Maldonado found herself in third-place and willed her way to keep that position when she crossed the finish line in a personal best time of 34:45.80.

The third-place finish for Colon Maldonado is the best she has had in her trips to the NCAA Division III Championships and earned herself a First-Team All-American honor with the final place.

The time in the race also set a new mark in the 10,000 meter for Colon Maldonado, AU and the Northern Athletics Coillegiate Conference.

Colon Maldonado will now move on and compete in the 5,000 meter run on Saturday, May 24 at 3:25 p.m. (est) / 2:25 p.m. (cst) in Geneva, Ohio at the Spire Institute.
