Spartan men open weekend series with CUW with offensive explosion

The No. 2 Aurora University Spartan men's hockey team dominated the Falcons of Concordia University Wisconsin on Friday evening, scoring five first period goals and three more in the third period for a 9-0 win. 14 of the 21 dressed Spartans collected a point in the blowout win.

How it happened
- AU had to kill off an early penalty that was assessed 1:51 into the contest.
- Spartan Lukas Sedlacek set the tone 40 seconds into the penalty kill, scoring short-handed with an assist from Chayce Schmidt.
- A couple minutes later AU went up 2-0 when Landry Schmuck lit the lamp. Hassan Akl and Jacob Brockman had assists.
- At 9:08 of the first, Sedlacek struck again and once again on the penalty kill.
- The second of the night for Sedlacek was assisted by Jakson Kirk and Andrew Schultz.
- The Spartans were not done in the period as Ryder Many Grey Horses put AU ahead 4-0 at 11:02.
- Many Grey Horses was assisted by Jaden Davis.
- Davis and Many Grey Horses combined efforts later in the period, this time assisting on the fifth Spartan goal off the stick of Roc Truman.
- Truman's goal gave AU the 5-0 lead with 2:43 remaining.
- AU led 5-0 going to the first intermission.
- Special teams struck again midway through the second period for the Spartans.
- Jake Code and the penalty kill scored a third short-handed tally of the night, this one unassisted.
- The game would remain 6-0 until the final five minutes of the game.
- With 4:23 remaining, Jacob Brockman scored with assists from Schmuck and Blake Kondor.
- The Falcons began taking liberties and four of the home team were in the penalty box a short time later.
- With a 5-on-3, the Spartans decided to light the lamp.
- Sedlacek completed the hat trick, this time on the power play, his third special teams score on the night.
- Kirk assisted on the eighth goal of the night.
- The Spartans were not done, with Conor Ronayne scoring the ninth goal of the night with 48 seconds remaining.
- Many Grey Horses collected his third point of the night with an assist and Chase Broda collected on as well.
- AU was victorious 9-0 with the shutout to Matt O'Donnell in net.
