JP Chaney was recognized for his combined efforts in the classroom and on the field today when the College Sports Communicators (CSC - formerly CoSIDA) announced the members of the 2025 Football Academic All-America teams.Â
The CSC Academic All-America® honor is chosen based off the student-athletes combined prowess on the field and in the classroom is the latest achievement. Chaney becomes the 55th Spartan student-athlete and sixth from the AU football program to be named a CSC/CoSIDA Academic All-America.Â
The 2025 season was resume building from a postseason accolade standpoint for Chaney as he now adds the Academic All-America honor to three Athletic All-American recognitions. Earlier in the season the junior was named All-American by  D3football.com, the Walter Camp Foundation, Associated Press (AP) Third-Team All-American along with being selected Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference First-Team All-Conference and a D3football.com First-Team All-Region recipient.Â
On the season, Chaney led the AU defense with 14.0 sacks, 28.0 tackles for loss, 13 quarterback hurries, 70 tackles, four forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries, one blocked kick and two pass break-ups. His tackles for loss and his sacks per game both rank among the tops nationally.
In his career, Chaney is now an All-American (2025 Academic All-America, AP, Walter Camp and D3football.com and 2025 pre-season D3football.com), a two-time D3football.com All-Region performer and two-time NACC All-Conference selection.
AU finished the 2025 season with an 8-3 overall record, were 2025 SmileyCookie.com LakeFront Bowl Champions while finishing second in the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference with a 6-2 record.
