#4 Spartans Dominate Raiders to open up Harris Cup

The Aurora University men's hockey team pulled off a dominate round one, game one victory over the visiting Raiders of MSOE. A three-goal first period proved to be enough, but AU stomped on the gas pedal with a five-goal third period to put the exclamation mark on this one. The Spartans won 8-0 to open up the Harris Cup.

How it happened
- AU found an early power play opportunity and capitalized on the chance.
- 4:44 into the game and just as the power play was about to expire, AU struck with Simon Diaz scoring on a Chase Broda assist.
- Midway through the first period the Spartans added on.
- Roc Truman put AU ahead 2-0 with Jacob Brockman having the helper.
- Late in the first, with 40 seconds left, AU lit the lamp for a third time.
- Conor Ronayne scored with Blake Kondor and Broda assisting.
- Matt O'Donnell stopped the only two shots sent his way in the first period as AU led 3-0.
- The second period was scoreless despite both teams having several power play chances.
- AU started the third with 24 seconds of power play time remaining and 26 seconds in and back at even strength the Spartans scored.
- The fourth Spartan goal came from Lukas Sedlacek with Juliano Santalucia and Jakson Kirk assisting.
- Midway through the third, AU struck once again. Kirk tallied the goal with Keaton Lipsett and Simon Diaz assisting.
- The final five minutes of the third period were littered with penalties, most coming on MSOE.
- With 4:40 five roughing penalties were handed out, two on AU and three on the Raiders, giving AU a power play.
- Less than a minute later, Sedlacek scored his second of the period with Ryder Many Grey Horses and Hassan Akl picking up the assists.
- With two minutes left in the game and the teams playing four-on-four hockey, MSOE collected two additional penalties giving AU a four-on-three power play.
- 13 seconds into the first of the two power plays, AU struck.
- Jakson Kirk hit a laser from the point that went bar down and AU led 7-0. Akl and Santalucia picked up the assists.
- Just over a minute later the eighth AU goal horn sounded, again on the power play.
- Landry Schmuck blistered the back of the net with Many Grey Horses and Diaz having the assists.
- AU would be victorious in game one of the series, 8-0.
