Aurora University Athletics in conjunction with BSN Sports proudly announces the recipients of the BSN Spartan Athletes of the Week award. The honors are earned based on the student-athletes performances on their respective playing surface the previous week.
This week's honors go to AU student-athletes, senior
Alexis Janiak of women's wrestling, junior
SJ Nelson of men's volleyball and sophomore
Simon Diaz of men's hockey.
Alexis Janiak, women's wrestling -Â
Janiak earned the honor after she won the 131 bracket at the NCAA Women's Wrestling Region IV Tournament and with the regional title, qualifies for her fourth consecutive NCAA National Championship. She was 4-0 on the weekend for the weight class title.
SJ Nelson, men's volleyball -Â
Nelson earned the honor after he led Aurora to a pair of wins, 3-1 at North Central and 3-0 vs Illinois Tech. He averaged 4.29 kills per set with 30 total kills in seven sets played, hitting .217. He had 20 kills in the four-set win at North Central and then reached double-digits again with 10 in the three-set win over Illinois Tech. He also collected seven digs in each match.
Simon Diaz, men's hockey -Â
Diaz earned the honor after he led AU to a Harris Cup first-round sweep of MSOE with six points from his defensemen position, scoring a goal and assisting on five more. In the game one 8-0 win, he scored the first goal of the game for the game winning tally and then added four assists to have a point in five of the eight AU scores. He then added an assist in game two, a 6-2 Spartan win.
