Davis leads Spartans in NCHA post season recognition

The Northern Collegiate Hockey Association Men's Conference announced the 2025-2026 season award winners today. The Aurora University Spartan men's hockey program was a prominent part of the NCHA awards.

AU freshman forward Jaden Davis was named the NCHA Co-Freshman of the Year, while senior forward Hassan Akl, senior defenseman Juliano Santalucia, junior goalie Matt O'Donnell and sophomore defenseman Simon Diaz were all received All-Conference selections. Davis was selected to the NCHA All-Freshman Team

Davis earned the top honor for a newcomer to the NCHA after he had an outstanding season recording 22 points and 16 assists, which were ninth and tied for fifth in the league, respectively. He also had six goals, a game-winning score, a power-play marker and a short-handed goal. Davis finished with five multi-point games. Twice he scored a pair of goals in different contests.

All-Conference selections Akl, Santalucia, Diaz and O'Donnell have all played a vital role in the Spartans 2025-2026 success. Santalucia leads the AU defensive unit as the captain while scoring with six goals and 12 assists. Akl leads AU in scoring with 35 points with 13 goals and 22 assists. Three goals have come on the power play and one as a game-winner. Diaz anchors the Spartan defense while being the leading defensive scoring threat with 25 points on four goals and 21 assists with three of the goals coming on the power-play and two being game-winning tallies. O'Donnell stands tall between the pipes for AU with a 19-2-1 overall record, a 2.09 goals against average and a .926 save percentage. He has collected five shutouts on the season.

The Spartans season will continue this weekend in the NCHA Harris Cup Semi-Finals. AU will  travel to Adrian College on Saturday, February 28 with opening puck drop set for 3:00 p.m. (est) / 2:00 p.m. (cst) in Adrian, Michigan.
