Second-half rally extends AU win streak to 16 with overtime thriller

The Aurora University men's basketball team needed an epic comeback and overtime to extend their win streak to 16 games as the Spartans out-lasted the Warriors of Wisconsin Lutheran College 103-100 on Wednesday night.

How it happened
- With 5:45 left in the first-half, the score was tied 26-26.
- WLC closed the half on a 14-5 run and led 40-31 going to halftime.
- Devon Richardson led AU with nine first-half points.
- WLC was hot coming out of the halftime break and would shoot 8-of-9 from three.
- With 8:16 to play in the game, AU trailed by 24 (79-55), what appeared to be an insurmountable deficit.
- The Spartans began to chip away and pick up the defensive pressure.
- Four minutes later, the deficit was down to 13 (86-73) at the final media timeout.
- Despite chipping away, the Spartans still trailed by 13 with 2:20 to play (93-80).
- AU with the aid of three WLC turnovers and three missed free-throws in the final minutes, clawed back.
- The Spartans scored nine points in a minute (9-0 run) and with 1:19 left were down just four at 93-89.
- Courtesy of a 14-1 run in the final 2:20, the Spartans managed to send the game to overtime.
- With 12 seconds left, Mekhi Doby drained a three to pull the Spartans to down two at 94-92.
- After forcing a WLC turnover, the Spartans had possession down two with five seconds left.
- Doby missed a shot in the lane but Jeffery Hillmer got the put back to fall just before the horn to tie the game and send it to overtime at 94-94.
- In overtime, the Spartans grabbed the final lead of the game following a steal from Juan Madrigal that led to a Doby layup for a 100-98 lead.
- Cullen Rauls (two-of-two) and Jeffery Hillmer (one-of-two) sealed the victory from the free-throw line as AU was victorious, 103-100.
