Spartans Take Two over Rival Eagles

The Aurora University baseball team headed to Benedictine University on Wednesday to take on the Eagles in a NACC doubleheader. The Spartans scored 23 runs on their way to a second consecutive conference sweep. The Spartans defeated the Eagle 18-8 in seven innings in game one on the back of Zack Tarrant's four RBI. Then battled in game two eventually coming out ahead with a 5-3 victory to complete the sweep.

How it happened
Game One:
- The Spartans started out their day in Lisle going up 1-0 in the first when Kyle Mack scored on an Eagle error.
- Benedictine answered back in the bottom of the inning with two runs of their own, going up 2-1.
- AU did not take that kindly answering back with five more runs in the top of the second.
- Tarrant got that run started with a double, scoring Matthew Washington, Isaac Wendler and Joe Lukancic.
- Ryan Buck then hit a RBI-double of his own, scoring Tarrant.
- Then Nick Czarnecki completed the trio of doubles, scoring Buck. AU now leading 6-2.
- BU answered back with two more runs in the bottom of the inning, down 6-4 now.
- The Spartans then began a string of 12 unanswered runs over the next several innings.
- Wendler smashed a three-run homer down the left field line in the third. His third home run in as many games.
- In the fifth inning, the Spartans expanded on their lead scoring nine more runs in the fifth inning. 
- AU now leading 18-4 after the top of the fifth. 
- The Eagles scored two more runs in the fifth, and one last run in the seventh but it wasn't enough.
- The Spartans dominated in game one, winning 18-8 in seven innings.

Game Two
- AU again jumped out to an early lead when Mack doubled in the first to score Lukancic.
- Isaac Goddard then smacked a solo-shot in the second to put AU on top 2-0.
- The Spartans scored again in the third when Czarnecki put the ball in play to bring Tarrant around to score.
- AU now led 3-0 after the top of the third.
- The Eagles score one run in the third, then tied the game in the fourth at three runs a piece.
- It took till the eighth inning for any more action to occur when Jaden Holgado squared to bunt, but pulled the bat back and smoked a triple to score Czarnecki.
- Following that, Matthew Washington provided some insurance for the Spartans, hitting a RBI single to bring in Holgado.
- AU completed the sweep, winning game two 5-3.
