Spartans sweep Thunder

The Aurora University softball team swept a non-conference doubleheader with Wheaton College on a warm and windy evening at Bedrosian Stadium. AU out slugged the Thunder, winning game one 8-4 and game two 4-2.

The Basics
Game One Score: Aurora Univeristy 8, Wheaton College 4
Game Two Score: Aurora Univeristy 4, Wheaton College 2
Record: Aurora University 9-7 overall and 1-1 NACC
Location: Bedrosian Stadium at Spartan Athletic Park - Montgomery, Illinois

How it happened
Game One
- AU got on the scoreboard first in game one with a two-out bases loaded infield fly ball that dropped, allowing a run to score.
- Wheaton went ahead 2-1 in the top of the second with three singles scoring a pair of runs.
- The Spartans tied the game in the third with a lead-off single from Angie Delgado and she scored on a Carly Clemens double.
- Wheaton then scored a run in the fourth to retake the lead at 3-2.
- AU used the home run in the bottom of the inning, scoring four runs on a pair of two-run home runs.
- Stephani Debise and Lily Komperda each hit long home runs to left center to give AU the 6-3 lead.
- The home run ball came back around in the fifth for the Spartans with a solo homer from Kelsey Oviatt.
- Mia Malczyk followed with a single, stole second and scored on an Aubrey Ortiz base knock.
- AU led 8-3 going to the sixth.
- Wheaton would score one run in the sixth but pitcher Mia Rivera limited the damage and held the lead at 8-4.
- The score would remain 8-4 as AU won game one.

Game Two
- A lead-off walk for Wheaton to start the game scored on a double and the visitors led 1-0.
- The Spartan bats answered right away with five straight hits with the first from Aubrey Ortiz not counting on two occasions as she was called for being out of the box and eventually called out.
- The next four singles though scored a run and a sac fly from Alyssa Gale plated Stephani Debise and AU led 2-1.
- AU looked poised to blow the game wide open in the second, loading the bases with no outs and forcing a Wheaton pitching change.
- But the visiting reliever got a pop out and a 1-2-3 double play to end the AU threat and the score remained 2-1 Spartans.
- In the third, Angie Delgado led off with a single and later scored on a passed ball to give AU a 3-1 lead.
- The pitchers locked in with AU's Emma Way not allowing much for Wheaton.
- An insurance run was scored for AU in the sixth with Ortiz walking, stole second and scored from second on an infield error.
- Leading 4-1 in the seventh, Wheaton got a solo home run but Way struck out the final batter looking to seal the 4-2 complete game win.
