Spartans Split with Gustavus Adolphus on Day Two in Arizona

The Aurora University baseball team played in a 7-inning double header against Gustavus Adolphus on Sunday. AU took game one of the day 6-5 on the back of three Tyler Patton RBIs, then fell to the Golden Gusties in game two on a walk-off walk, 5-4.

How it happened
Game One:
- The Spartans got on the board early with a Patton RBI single, scoring Joe Lukancic in the first inning.
- Scoring again in the second were the Spartans when sophomore Diego Lugo grounded out the third base, allowing Isaac Goddard to score.
- AU tacked on another run in the third when Matthew Washington singled to left, bringing in Zack Tarrant.
- The Spartans led 3-0 after three innings of play.
- The Golden Gusties hit a two-run home run in the fourth to close in on the AU lead.
- Back-to-back Gustie errors in the bottom of the fourth allowed Lukancic and Tarrant to reach base safely.
- Then Patton connected with his seventh double of the season to score both Lukancic and Tarrant.
- Kyle Mack then walked up to the dish, hitting a RBI-single to center, scoring Patton.
- AU now led 6-2 after four.
- Gustavus Adolphus had a comeback effort in the seventh, scoring three runs, but that effort would only go so far.
- AU won game one of this double header, 6-5.

Game Two
- AU got on top early, as the first five Spartan batters of the game reached base safely.
- A Lukancic lead-off walk was followed directly by a Tarrant single.
- Patton singled to right, scoring Lukancic and allowing Tarrant to move to third.
- Mack immediately followed, with the same exact outcome.
- Then a Buck single to center scored Patton for the third run of the inning.
- AU led 3-0 after the first inning.
- A Gustie homer in the second narrowed the AU lead to two.
- Then in the fifth, a Washington single score Patton, AU's lead was now 4-1.
- Gustavus Adolphus tacked on three more runs in the bottom of the inning, tying the game at four runs a piece.
- A Golden Gustie bases loaded walk in the seventh would end the game.
- AU would fall 5-4 in game two.
