Spartans Respond in Game Two to Split with MSOE

The Aurora University softball team split Saturday's NACC doubleheader with MSOE, dropping a tightly contested 2-1 decision in game one before bouncing back with a dominant 9-1 run-rule victory in game two at Bedrosian Stadium.

How it happened
Game One
- The game was a pitcher's duel early, with both teams held scoreless through the first five innings.
- MSOE broke the scoreless tie in the top of the sixth inning, scoring two runs on a double and a sacrifice fly to take a 2-0 lead.
- AU looked to respond in the bottom half of the sixth, putting runners on base, but the Raiders worked out of the inning unscathed.
- The Spartans made things interesting in the seventh, as Lily Komperda led off with a double to spark the rally.
- Carly Clemens followed with an RBI triple to right field, cutting the deficit to 2-1.
- With the tying run at third, Aubrey Ortiz fought through the at-bat and ripped a line drive up the middle, but MSOE made the play to secure the final out.
- Emma Way delivered a complete-game performance in the circle, limiting MSOE to just two runs on seven hits.

Game Two
- After two scoreless innings, AU broke the game open in the third, scoring four runs on three hits and capitalizing on MSOE miscues.
- Angie Delgado highlighted the inning with a two-RBI double to give the Spartans early control.
- The Spartans added three more runs in the fourth inning, extending the lead to 7-0 behind extra-base hits and productive situational hitting.
- Mia Rivera helped her own cause with an RBI triple, while Nina Richards added a run with a sacrifice bunt.
- MSOE got on the board in the fifth, but the Spartans answered with two runs in the bottom half to secure the run-rule victory.
- The Spartans totaled 10 hits and scored in three straight innings to take control of the game.
