Spartans Splits NACC Doubleheader with Dominican

The Aurora University softball team earned a split in Sunday's NACC doubleheader with Dominican (Ill.), falling 12-3 in game one before closing the day with a 10-7 victory at Bedrosian Stadium.

How it happened
Game One
- Dominican took an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first after a leadoff single, stolen base, and an RBI single to right.
- Aurora responded with a three-run bottom of the first to take a 3-1 lead.
- Mia Rivera singled and advanced on an error before Nina Richards tied the game with an RBI single.
- Angie Delgado reached on an error to extend the inning.
- Lily Komperda delivered a two-RBI double to left field, scoring two to give AU the lead.
- Dominican answered in the second inning with three runs.
- The Stars added on with one run in the fourth and one in the fifth to extend their lead.
- Dominican broke the game open late, scoring two runs in the sixth and four in the seventh.
- Aurora was held scoreless after the first inning, finishing with seven hits.

Game Two
- The Spartans broke through in the second inning with four runs to take control early.
- Angie Delgado and Lily Komperda each reached to start the rally.
- Alyssa Gale delivered the big swing with a three-run inside-the-park home run to right field.
- Mia Malczyk followed with a double, stole third, and scored on an RBI single from Aubrey Ortiz to make it 4-0.
- Dominican answered with three runs in the third, but Aurora responded immediately.
- Nina Richards singled to start the inning before Lily Komperda launched a two-run home run to center, extending the lead to 6-3.
- After Dominican cut into the lead and made it a one-run game, Aurora delivered again in the sixth inning.
- Angie Delgado singled to lead off the inning, and Alyssa Gale followed with a base hit.
- Leila Lopez came through with an RBI single to score the first run of the frame.
- Lopez and Taylor Downs executed a double steal, with Downs scoring on a throwing error.
- Mia Malczyk reached on an error to keep the inning alive.
- Aubrey Ortiz added an RBI single, and Mia Rivera capped the inning with a sacrifice bunt RBI to extend the lead to 10-5.
- Dominican added two runs in the top of the seventh but the Spartans secured the 10-7 victory to split the day.
