Spartans sweep Inferno to secure NACC four seed

The Aurora University softball team secured the four seed in the upcoming Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference Tournament with a doubleheader sweep of Alverno College, winning both games by mercy rule, 20-10 and 13-5.

How it happened
Game One
- 30 runs would cross the plate in game one with the Spartans scoring 13 times in the first inning to take command of the game right away.
- Six walks and six hits including a stretch of back-to-back-to-back home runs from Nina Richards, Stephani Debise and Lily Komperda fueled the 13 run inning.
- Angie Delgado had two doubles and three runs batted in in the first inning.
- Alverno answered with four runs in the first and a run each in the second and third before AU scored again.
- After plating a run in the fourth, the Spartans saw the Inferno cut the lead to four at 14-10 with the game going to the fifth.
- AU would score six times in the fifth, all coming with two outs.
- Seven hits led to the six runs.
- Sarah McManus kept Alverno scoreless in the fifth for the first time in the game as AU won 20-10.

Game Two
- The Spartans jumped out again in the first inning, scoring two runs with a Lily Komperda triple being the big hit.
- Alverno took a 3-2 lead in the bottom of the first.
- Three home runs from Mia Malczyk, Holly Smith and Nina Richards helped fuel an eight run AU second inning.
- AU led 10-3 after 2-1.2 innings.
- An Angie Delgado double led off the third and started a two run inning with four more hits added to the hit parade.
- After Alverno scored a pair of runs in the fourth to bring the score inside the mercy category, the Spartans answered back.
- Three singles in the fifth for AU led to one run and a 13-5 lead.
- Mia Rivera navigated some Inferno base runners in the fifth the end the game early with the 13-5 win.
