Intercollegiate athletics is a competitive environment. Most collegiate athletes were outstanding at the high school level, and understandably have high expectations when they get to the college level. In many cases those expectations are fulfilled and in some they are not. Student-athletes and / or parents may have concerns or questions regarding the student-athlete’s role or position on a team.
Working through the chain of command is the most effective method for the student-athlete to get the feedback they need. In some cases the person to speak with might be an assistant or position coach. In other instances, the head coach might be the right person to approach. The student-athlete and the coaches have participated in the same practices and competition on which decisions have been based. Although the perceptions may not always be the same, and the student-athlete may not hear what they want to hear, the coach is the one who can provide them with the information they need regarding their role or what they need to work on.
