Larry Sheppard joined the Aurora University football coaching staff in the fall of 2021 as an assistant defensive backs coach.
Sheppard comes to AU after 10 years in the Illinois High Catholic League. Coaching at Providence Catholic and Montini Catholic. He has coached nine D-1 defensive backs. Those Players played at Northwestern, Navy, Iowa, Drake, Eastern IL and Dayton.
He started his coaching career in California at Mt. Carmel High School and Mesa Jr. College. He has had five All-State Selections during the 10 years coaching in Illinois.
Growing up in Joliet, Illinois, Sheppard excelled in football and wrestling at Joliet Central High School before moving on to play football at Millikin University. .He went on to play in two semi-pro leagues for the Joliet Fire and San Diego Sharks and was signed by the San Diego Chargers in 1982.
He played two years in the USFL for both the Boston Breakers and Chicago Blitz before retiring in 1984.
Sheppard now runs a successful company and has been married for 30 years to his wife Andrea Sheppard and they have two sons Troy and Luke.
