Matt Kalb joined the AU coaching staff in 2008 and serves as the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach. The 2012 Spartan offense ranked in the top 2 in most statistical categories in the Northern Athletics Conference.

Twice over the past five seasons, Kalb's Spartan passing attack set new AU records in yardage and touchdowns. In 2012, the AU offense achieved the most total yardage in a 10-game season with 4,091. The AU record in an 11-game season came with the Spartan 2004 playoff team that had 4,295. Under Kalb, AU's all-time leading passer, Jimmy Bevell, shattered the previous mark by over 1,000-yards in just two and one half seasons. In 2008, Kalb also coached the NAC First-Team All-Conference quarterback, Nate Peterson.

He came to the Spartans after spending the previous eight seasons at Loras College. For the last two seasons at Loras, Kalb served as the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach. Kalb was the Head Coach at Joliet Junior College for two seasons (1998 and 1999) and was an assistant head coach and offensive coordinator at JJC in 1997.

Kalb was a wide receiver collegiately at the University of Alabama and University of Kentucky, having played two seasons at each institution. He earned his bachelor of arts in political science and english in 1993 from the University of Kentucky and earned his master of arts in liberal studies from Valparaiso University in 1997.
