Tyler Wellman

Tyler Wellman joined the Aurora University Spartan football program as an assistant coach in January 2018. In his first season with the Spartans he coached the offensive line and will transition to the tight ends for the 2019 season.

Prior to coming to AU, Wellman spent five seasons with Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference foe Lakeland College as the offensive line coach and the last four seasons he also served as the offensive coordinator. In each of the four seasons he served as offensive coordinator, Wellman's Muskies won or shared the NACC conference championship led by a prolific offensive unit.

Prior to his years of service at Lakeland, Wellman was an assistant coach at Alma College for five seasons. He coached the offensive line in four of his five years coaching with the Scots, as he coached the wide receivers for one season in 2011.

Wellman is an alumnus of Alma, where he was a four-year starter on the offensive line for the Scots at center, guard and tackle. He made 41 consecutive starts in his career and was a captain of the 2007 squad. Wellman was a member of the Scots' 2004 Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association championship team and earned Second Team All-MIAA honors in 2007 after being recognized as an MIAA honorable mention offensive lineman in 2006.

A 2008 graduate of Alma with a bachelor’s degree in history, he has his master's degree in sport administration from Central Michigan University. Tyler is married to Ashley (Matuzak) Wellman, who also is a 2008 graduate of Alma.
