Johnson comes to AU after a stint as the Head Coach of the girls track program at Homewood Flossmoor High School. Under the leadership of Johnson, the Homewood Flossmoor Girls Track Team finished second in the 3A Illinois State Championship twice before bringing home a state championship in dominating form in 2019, being the Illinois Mile split number one ranked team wire-to-wire. HF finished the 2019 season with number one state marks in eight events (4x1, 4x2, 4x4, 100m, 400m, 100m hurdles, high jump and triple jump. Johnson was named the USA Track and Field and Cross Country Illinois Coach of the year at the conclusion of the 2019 track season. Johnson is a certified USATF Level 1 Coach and has coached and mentored 105 IHSA state qualifiers, 59 All-State runners and jumpers and 31 High School All-Americans
