Aurora University Athletics

The Aurora University athletic department announced the 2023-2024 Spartan Man of the Year Award today with the honor bestowed upon Spartan football special teams returner James Mautino.

A member of the AU football program, serving as a key component for Spartans squads that won Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference championships the last five seasons and making historic NCAA playoff appearances in the 2022 and 2023 seasons.

In his career he collected many honors both academic and athletic including being a First-Team Academic All-American and an athletic All-American following the 2023 season. He was a three-time NACC All-Conference selection, earned multiple All-Region honors, he was a five-time AU and NACC Scholar-Athlete (2020, 2021, 2022, 2023 and 2024).

Away from the field, Mautino was recognized as a 2024 National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) and EAS Sports Nutrition All-American while also spending time in the community around AU and around his hometown of Spring Valley.
