Box Score A senior night celebration was followed with a Spartan volleyball trouncing of the Inferno of Alverno College in Thornton Gymnasium on Tuesday night. AU defeated the NAC foe 3-0 (25-12, 25-13, 25-12).
After the visiting Inferno took a quick 3-1 lead to start the opening set, the Spartans scored quickly and often to push the lead to 17-7 after an 11 serve performance by junior
Nina Zalewski. The Spartans did not look back enroute to the 25-12 win. Senior
Brittany Budimier had six kills int he set.
The second set found the host Spartans continue to jump out early this time to a quick 6-2 lead. Budimier added three more kills in the set while junior
Emilee Mitchell had four kills as well.
The third and deciding set played out just like the first two with the Spartans gaining control from the start and not looking back. Mitchell and fellow junior
Alyssa Howey had three kills each with sophomore setter
Lexi O'Boyle adding two kills of her own.
Leading the way for the Spartans was Budimier with 10 kills and three blocks assists, Mitchell had eight kills, O'Boyle had 22 assists, four kills and three aces and Zalewski finished with three aces. Senior Jess Barney had 14 digs while the third AU senior,
Kelly Coleman had five digs.
With the win AU moves their record to 9-16 overall and 5-5 in the NAC and will be in action again on Friday, October 19. AU travel to Dominican University for a 7:00 p.m. start.
