Box Score The Aurora University Spartan hockey team took to the ice
Friday night against the Defenders of Dordt College at the Fox Valley Ice Arena. AU defeated Dordt 5-0.
AU got of to an early lead with a goal just four minutes into the first period from
Joe Jablonski with assists from
Kevin Salinas and
In the net for the Spartans, goalie
Gavin Carlson was the rock of the AU defense, stopping all eight first period shots.
Aurora erupted in the second half to extend their lead 5-0.
Nate Marcy tallied a short handed goal with an assist from Jablonski just two minutes into the period.
Jablonski followed up by tallying a powerplay goal with an assist from
Adam Marshall. The next goal came just three minutes later from
Bryce Stenstrom with an assist from
Sheldon Kihle.
The Spartans fifth and final goal came with just two minutes left in the second period. Ryan Dalvantes delivered a rocket to the top corner of the net to extend the lead to 5-0 going into the 2nd intermission.
Carlson remained perfect, blocking the six shots he faced in the second period.
The third period brought a defensive battle. AU fought through multiple power plays keeping the Defenders to zero shots on goal in the third period. Carlson recorded a shutout and 14 saves for the Spartans.
The Spartans improve to 13-1 and will take on Dordt again
Saturday, November 9 with game time set for 6:00 p.m. at Fox Valley Ice Arena in Geneva, Ill.
