The Aurora University Spartan Men's Track and Field competed on Saturday, February 2 at Illinois Wesleyan University's Bob Keck Invitational. The men finished the meet with multiple athletes breaking indoor records.
“Today was an awesome day for us. I am extremely proud of our athletes today; especially with all of these records being shattered,” said coach
Ryan Chapman.
Sophomore
Loren Iwanicki finished second in the men's high jump with a mark of 2.00 meters. Iwanicki's finishing height now sets him on top of AU's record books. “It has been a long two years. I have been waiting to do this, but I know that I can jump even higher,” said Iwanicki. He is now ranked 15 in the nation.
Freshman
Tyron Pitchford finished eighth in the 60 meter dash with a time of 7.15 seconds. Pitchford's time broke the school record set earlier this season by fellow Spartan
Wade Robinson. “We all know Wade and I will be battling back and forth this season for that top spot,” said Robinson.
Junior
Kyle Kayzar finished eleventh in the 800 meter run. Kayzar's time of 1:59.54 also break's a school record. Freshman
Alex Duncan followed closely behind with a time of 2:00.74.
“I am happy for Kyle today. Him, myself, and
Roberto Gonzalez all push one another each day at practice,” said Duncan.
The men's 4x400 meter relay of
Alex Hoyle,
Nico Gonzalez, Kayzar, and
Nick Williams finished eighth with a time of 3:33.01.
Next action for the Spartan men's track and field team comes on Saturday, February 9 when they travel to North Central College for the Chicagoland Indoor Championships.
