Box Score The Aurora University women's lacrosse team won the first game in program history
Tuesday afternoon on Vago Field by defeating Beloit College 7-4.
The Spartans got off to a quick start as freshman
Danielle Morgan found the back of the just 1:46 seconds into the game.
Beloit was able to answer six minutes later when Sara Fithian found herself free in front of the Spartan cage, tying the game 1-1.
AU senior
Kaitlyn Crohan capped off an aggressive opening 12 minutes when she regained the lead for the Spartans with her fourth goal of the season.
The teams continued to battle for control of the game over the next 12 minutes before the Spartans
Paige Ronnenberg was able to give AU a 3-1 lead with 6:44 left in the first-half.
The final minute of the half was concluded with Crohan finding the back of the net with 1:03 to play and
Fithian scoring for Beloit just 14 seconds later. The goals were each players second on the day.
The teams went into the half with AU leading 4-2 and AU carrying a majority of the games momentum.
The Spartans continued to build on that momentum in the opening moments of the second half as sophomore
Danielle Hernandez picked up a loose ball in front of the Beloit net and quickly deposited it into the back for a goal, just 28 seconds into the half. Her goal gave AU a commanding 5-2 lead.
Beloit would not lie down though as Fithian completed her hat trick, beating AU goalkeeper
Sydney Frey
to pull Beloit within two again with 23 minutes to play in the game.
Just 2:30 later Beloit was able to take advantage of an Aurora penalty when Sarah Pipal was able to weave in between several Spartan defenders before finishing off her scoring chance.
With a 5-4 lead by AU, Crohan completed her hat trick on the day at the 18:50 mark, putting AU up 6-4.
Spartans freshman
Jordan Nielsen sealed the game for AU as she got free in front of the Beloit net and scored to give AU a 7-4 lead with 3:24 to play.
The Spartans held on to that lead for the programs first win in its sixth game of action. Crohan led AU on the day with three goals and Frey finished with eight saves in goal.
AU is now 1-5 on the season and 1-0 in the Midwest Women's Lacrosse Conference. The Spartans will be in action again on Saturday,
March 23 when they take on Carthage College. The game is scheduled for 10:00 a.m. on Vago Field.
