The Aurora University Spartan Men's Track and Field competed on Friday, March 1 at the Carthage Gill Final Qualifier at Carthage College. AU finished fifth overall in team points. “After winning conference, our emotions were running high,” said coach
Ryan Chapman. “But we always know that there is 'one more,' as we like to say.”
Freshman
Alex Duncan won the men's 800 meter run with a time of 1:59.15. This just misses Duncan's former record set earlier this season. “I love this team, coming into the meet, I had heard there were going to be guys way faster than me today,” said Duncan.
Fellow freshman Jaime Charles finished second in the mile with a time of 4:29.15. “I really wanted the record today,” said Charles. “But, you know, there is always next time.”
Freshman
Wade Robinson finished third in the 55 meter dash with a time of 6.69. Robinson joined fellow Spartans
Reiner Ebarle,
Juan Mercado, and Laron Wallace in the finals.
Senior
Alex Hoyle finished fourth in the 400 meter run with a time of 52.35 seconds. “This was Hoyle's best showing yet as a Spartan,” said Chapman.
Freshman
Nick Williams finished fourth in the long jump with a mark of 6.87 meters. This mark leave Williams just short of the 2013 NCAA Division III Indoor National Championships, held at North Central College.
To finish the meet, Robinson, Wallace,
Kyle Kayzar, and Hoyle won the men's 4x400 meter relay with a final time of 3:30.94.
This concludes the men's indoor season. Next action for the Spartan men's track and field team comes on Friday, March 22 when they travel to Augustana College for the annual Viking Open.
