The Aurora University Spartan men's Track and Field competed on Friday, April 5th at the Rex Foster Invitation at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater.. AU finished fifth overall in team points. “There was a lot of serious competition, hence pushing us to have betters marks,” said assistant coach Ryan Schroeder.
Senior
Zach Burke finished third in the men's shot put with a distance of 13.22 meters. Burke later finished sixth in the hammer with a final mark of 36.18 meters. “Burke was our last athlete out here competing,” said head coach
Ryan Chapman. “It was cool to see him throwing out here in the cold night; us cheering him on.”
Freshman
Kalmon Stokes won the 400 hurdles with a time of 56.99 seconds. Stokes also finished fifth in the 110 hurdles. “I know I still have a lot of practice to do,” said Stokes.
Sophomore
Loren Iwanicki finished second in the triple jump with a height of 1.9 meters. Freshman
Brian Rudelich followed Iwanicki in third with a height of 1.85 meters.
The 4x100 meter relay of
LaRon Wallace,
Nick Williams,
Wade Robinson, and
Tyron Pitchford finished second with a time of 42.96 seconds, setting a new school record. “That is just short of the conference record,” said Chapman.
Williams later finished fourth in the triple jump with a final mark of 13.18 meters, setting a new school record.
Next action for the Spartan men's track and field team comes on Saturday, April 13 when they travel to the Eagle Invitational at Benedictine University. Meet time is set for 9:30 a.m. in Lisle, Ill.
