Men's Lacrosse has 2013 season ended in Sweet 16

Box Score The Aurora University men's lacrosse team traveled to Cortland, New York for the Sweet 16 contest against top-seeded SUNY Cortland on Saturday, May 11. The Spartans battled valiantly but fell to Cortland 14-8/

Obriecht
The host Red Dragons jumped out to a 4-0 lead before AU sophomore Max Obriecht scored a man-up goal with 11 seconds to play in the first quarter. Obriecht was assisted by Zachary Olsen on the play.

In the second quarter, the Cortland defense limited the AU opportunities while scoring five more times for a 9-1 halftime lead.

The Spartans did not go down quietly in the second half though as AU would outscore Cortland 7-5. In the third quarter, junior Pat Diorka got the Spartans offense going with 13:35 on the clock with another man-up goal off an assist from sophomore Jordan Williams.

After a Cortland goal, AU scored two more times with Obriecht assisting on goals by Diorka and junior Garret Rosiek, cutting the lead to 10-4.

But the hosts showed why they have been a highly ranked team all season, answering back with two goals

to push the deficit back to 12-4.

Just before the third quarter ended, Rosiek scored an unassisted goal, his 40th of the season.

Taking momentum from the late goal, AU junior Justin Bose tickled the twine with an unassisted goal, 35 seconds into the fourth quarter, pulling the Spartans to within six (12-6).

Cortland scored twice more in the next five minutes to pull back to a 14-6 lead.

Bose would tally his second goal off an assist from Rosiek with 8:26 to play and the Spartans got the games final goal with 1:34 to play as Obriecht scored (unassisted).

Junior goalkeeper Adam Holka had 16 saves in the contest and AU finishes the 2013 season with a 16-4 overall record.
