Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Spartan offense silent in loss to Dominican

The Aurora University Men's Soccer team hosted the Stars of Dominican University on a beautiful fall Wednesday on Vago Field. AU fell behind in the first minute and eventually fell by a 3-0 score.

The Stars took the early lead, just a minute into the game as a shot squeaked past AU goalie Zach McFarland and narrowly crossed the line before a sliding Steven Soderstrom could prevent the goal.

The Spartans and Stars battled the rest of the half but neither team was able to score. Aurora trailed 1-0 going into intermission.

Dominican came out much like they did to start the game and was able to get a favorable call in the box which led to a penalty kick. The Stars were able to convert on the penalty kick and extend their lead to 2-0 with only 2:06 gone in the second-half.

AU was not without scoring chances though. In the the 48th minute Spartan Kyle Pierson found himself in front of the goal but put the ball just high of the goal post.

In the final 30 minutes of action the pace of play became very physical with numerous fouls and five yellow cards being handed out.

In the 76th minute Dominican seemed to put the game out of reach when they scored the third and final goal of the contest.

AU went on to fall 3-0 which moves their record to 6-3-2 overall and 1-2 in the NACC. Next action for the Spartan men's soccer team comes on Saturday, October 4 when they host Edgewood College. Game time is set for 3:30 p.m. on Vago Field.
