In the need for one more Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference win to clinch an appearance in the 2014 NACC Men's Soccer Tournament, the Aurora University men's soccer team took care of business in Milwaukee, Wisconsin on Saturday afternoon, beating the Wisconsin Lutheran College Warriors 1-0.
The first half saw the Spartans on the attack early with six of the games first seven shots but none were able to find the back of the net. The game would be a 0-0 contest as the halftime intermission commenced.
As the second half began, the Spartans came out on the attack just as they had on the beginning of the game. This time they were able to capitalize though. In the 54th minute a pair of seniors,
Emmanuel Denton and
Jason O'Brien connected to tally what would be the games only goal. O'Brien sent a pass to Denton who headed the ball into the back of the net for his first of the season.
The Spartan defense and
Zach McFarland worked together to collect the 1-0 shutout, AU's ninth of the year.
With the win, AU is now 11-4-2 overall and 6-3 in the NACC. Next action for the Spartan men's soccer team comes on
Wednesday, October 29 when they host Benedictine University. Game time is set for 1:00 p.m.on Vago Field. This is the AU men's soccer senior day.
