Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

AU wins third straight over Dominican

The Aurora University women's basketball team took to the road Tuesday night looking to extend their current Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference win streak to three games at Dominican University. AU led throughout before coasting to a 20-point win 70-50.

After a scoreless first 2:10 of action the Stars got a lay-up to take a 2-0 lead. On the very next possession the Spartans answered with a three-point basket from junior Shannon Koski which followed an offensive rebound from freshman Morgan Ricketts. The 3-2 would be AU's first and the last time Dominican would hold a lead the remainder of the contest.

Leading by two (13-11) with 11:45 left in the first half, AU embarked on a 12-2 run to take a 12-point lead at 25-13 with 8:39 to play. Four different Spartans scored in the run led by five from Koski.

Dominican did cut the lead down to four with just under two minutes but the Spartans fended off the Stars and went into halftime with a 35-27 advantage.

Koski led the first half scoring with 14 points, Ricketts had nine rebounds and junior Bethany Dorrington had seven points, six rebounds and four assists.

AU opened the second half with a 13-4 run to extend the lead to a comfortable 17 points with 14:44 to play.

The remainder of the second half saw Dominican get no closer than 11 points with the Spartans holding a lead as large as 21 points before the eventual 20 point final score of 70-50.

Koski finished with a game-high 26 points and five assists, Ricketts had a double-double of 14 points and 16 rebounds and Dorrington had 14 points, six rebounds and six assists.

With the win, AU is now 3-7 overall and 3-3 in the NACC. Next action for the Spartan women's basketball team comes on Saturday, December 20 when they travel to Concordia University Wisconsin. Game time is set for 2:00 p.m. in Mequon, Wisconsin.
