The Aurora University Men's Track and Field team opened up the 2014-2015 season at the Illinois Wesleyan University First Chance Meet on Saturday, December 6, 2014.

The Spartans started off strong, claiming four school indoor records with two of those setting or tying new marks in the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference.

In the 60 meter hurdles, Bobby Cooks had a school record breaking and NACC record tying performance as he finished second with a time of 8.35. Taylor Coleman was not too far behind finishing in fourth at a pace of 8.74.

Freshman Camerhon Guyton took to stage and set new records for AU and the NACC in the 60 meter dash. He finished in second place with a time of 7.01 in his first collegiate race. Guyton also competed in the 200 meter dash where he finished in third place with a time of 22.90.

In the final event of the meet on the men's side, Kyle Kayzar finished second in the 600 meter run with an AU record pace of 1:23.50. Earlier in the meet he joined the AU 4x400 meter relay with teammates Cody McSorley, Wade Robinson and Cooks to finish in second place with a time of 3:35.13 just 0:06 behind the first place Washington University team.

Adding to the Spartan record setters was Leonard Becerra in the pole vault as he cleared 4.10 meters to tie current AU graduate assistant Jeff Feller's record.

Other Spartans with top finishes in the first meet of the season included Deon Conway, fourth in the long jump (6.31 meters) and second in the triple jump (12.69 meters), Robinson finished fifth in the 300 meter dash with a time of 37.17, Anthony Barrios won the mile run with a time of 4:39.87, Nick Majka finished second in the high jump (1.90 meters) and Josiah Douglas finished third in the shot put with a throw of 12.65 meters.

Next action for the Spartan men's indoor track and field team comes on Saturday, January 10, 2015 when they travel to the University Chicago for the Phoenix Invitational. Meet time is set for 12:00 p.m. in Chicago, Illinois.
