Box Score The Aurora University men's lacrosse team opened the 2014 season in Michigan against Albion College on Saturday afternoon.
After a fast start for the Spartans, AU had no answer for Albion College as the Britons went on to defeat the AU 11-9.
After an opening possession by Albion, the Spartans got the ball and struck first. Aurora scored the first three goals of the game all within two minutes of each other thanks to early transition opportunities. The Spartans first goal of the season came from sophomore
Alex Gebben on an assist from senior
Pat Diorka. Diorka would then assist on the next goal from junior
Danny Loyall, who buried the third AU goal on an assist from junior
Max Obriecht.
Aurora slowly watched their lead disappear, as Albion would score the next seven goals of the game. Loyall recorded the hat trick to stop the Briton run as he was again assisted by Obriecht.
After Albion scored to go up 8-4, Obriecht found the back of the net just before the halftime intermission for his first goal of the season. Aurora went into halftime down 8-5.
Coming out of halftime, AU responded with the games next two goals. Senior
Spencer Fuqua and Diorka tallied goals with Diorka getting an assist from junior
Nolan Miller.
Albion then scored the next two goals before freshman
Bailey Smith tried to keep AU close with his first collegiate goal off an assist from junior
Jordan Williams.
Bur the Britons responded with a goal to answer and in the final minute, Obriecht scored his second goal of the game for the eventual 11-9 final.
Aurora is now 0-1 on the year and next action for the Spartan men's lacrosse team comes on Wednesday,
February 26 when they host Adrian College. Game time is set for 3:45 p.m. on Vago Field in Aurora, Ill.
