The Aurora University hockey team dropped the opening game of the 2014 American Collegiate Hockey Association (ACHA) National Tournament pool play to Davenport University on Tuesday afternoon, 7-2.
AU fell behind early in the first period when Davenport scored on Spartan goalkeeper
Paul Favaro courtesy of a break away goal.
The Spartans did not lay down though as they countered with a goal later in the period off the stick off
Thomas Massman.
The 1-1 tie carried AU into the first intermission.
The second period was unusually unkind to AU though as Davenport tallied five unanswered goals in the period to seperate themselves with a 6-1 lead going into the second intermission.
Each team added a goal in the third period with the Spartan goal being scored by
Anthony Rohde.
AU is now 0-1 in pool play and next action for the Spartan hockey team comes on Wednesday,
March 12 when they play California University Pennsylvania in Coral Springs, Fla. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. (6:30 p.m. Aurora time).
