Box Score The Aurora University Spartan women's lacrosse team fell in an overtime thriller at Beloit College on Saturday afternoon 13-12.
The game was a back and forth game throughout with the teams changing leads six different times.
AU got on the board first with a goal by Lexi Wright, her first of three on the day. Beloit followed with two goals before
Jordan Nielsen scored the first of her three goals on the day to tie the game.
Beloit scored twice more to take a 4-2 lead when Nielsen scored again. After another Beloit goal, AU closed out the half with back to back goals from
Lauren Whitfield and
Chloe Madison.
At the half, the game was tied 5-5.
AU sophomore
Rachel Cochran opened up scoring to start the second half but the host Bucs scored five straight goals to take a 10-6 lead. But as had been the case in the game, AU was not done. Wright and
Danielle Morgan scored to cut the Beloit lead down to two at 10-8. Beloit added a goal to extend the lead back to three at 11-8 with 12 minutes to play.
The Spartans scored the final three goals of regulation to send the game into overtime. Goal scorers were Whitfield, Morgan and Wright.
In the overtime session which was a six minute period split into three minute segments, Beloit scored the first two goals for a 13-11 lead after the first three minutes.
Nielsen scored with 2:10 left in overtime but the Spartans could not overcome theone goal deficit in the final minutes for the eventual 13-12 loss.
With the loss, AU is now 3-8 overall and 2-4 in the MWLC. Next action for the Spartan women's lacrosse team comes on
Tuesday, April 22 when they travel to Benedictine University. Game time is set for 7:00 p.m. in Lisle, Ill.
