Spartans fall in second straight overtime contest

Box Score For the second consecutive game the Aurora University women's lacrosse team lost in overtime of a Midwest Women's Lacrosse Conference contest, this time in double-overtime at Benedictine 10--9.

The teams traded scores in the first 11 minutes with AU getting goals from Jordan Nielsen and Lauren Whitfield.

AU took a 3-2 lead with 12:47 to play in the first-half when Lexie Wright found the back of the net. The Spartans then scored twice more , both from Danielle Morgan to take a 5-2 lead with 9:57 to go.

The two teams each scored once more in the final minutes with AU getting a goal from Chloe Madison off an assist from Nielsen.

After AU took a 6-3 lead at halftime, they built their lead to four (8-4) with 19:37 to play. Scoring for AU was Nielsen and Morgan got her third.

The Spartans were out-scored 5-1 in the final 14 minutes of the game and with a 9-9 score as the final horn sounded, AU had overtime for the second time in as many games.

Neither team scored in the initial extra period and with 2:40 left on the clock in the second session, Benedictine tallied the eventual game winning goal.

With the loss, AU is now 3-9 overall and 2-5 in the MWLC. Next action for the Spartan women's lacrosse team comes on Saturday, April 26 when they host Augustana College. Game time is set for 1:00 p.m. on Vago Field in Aurora, Ill.
