On Friday, April 11, the Aurora University volleyball program opened up the Thornton Gymnasium to welcome approximately 65 young volleyball athletes from the surrounding communities for a free volleyball clinic. The program was organized by
Sarah Olesen, a Spartan graduating senior, as part of her community outreach requirement for her communication major.
The clinic, which lasted approximately an hour and a half, was run by the members of the Spartan women's volleyball program as well as AU's coaching staff. The young athletes were taught the basics of passing, setting, and hitting and given feedback and encouragement by the Spartan players. The event culminated in Queen of the Court, where the girls got to show off their skills.
"I am so grateful that our Spartan community was able to expand the game and provide the next generation of players with some instruction," said AU junior
Kate Wright. "We had a lot of fun working with the girls, they were amazing and had a lot of potential"
Thank you to everyone involved, we are looking forward to seeing you in the stands in the fall
