The Aurora University Women's soccer team hosted the Panthers of Greenville College on a chilly
Friday afternoon on AU's Vago Field. The Spartans would defeat the Panthers 2-0 in a non-conference match-up.
The Spartans rebounded nicely from the heart breaking loss on
Tuesday with the dominating shutout victory. AU junior
Nicci Bermudes scored just over three minutes into the game as she blasted a shot past Greenville goalie Barbara Nigro. The goal was Bermudes' fifth in as many games on the season.
The rest of the first half only saw two more shots on goal combined between the two teams, both by the Spartans but neither found the back of the net. AU would go into halftime leading the Panthers 1-0.
The second half was much like the first with the Spartans scoring early in the session, this time 8:40 into the half. AU senior
Brittany Roydhouse scored on a beautiful pass from Bermudes to extend the lead to 2-0 Spartans.
AU would put pressure on Greenville the rest of the half but could not convert their scoring chances but went on to prevail 2-0.
With the win, AU is now 2-3 overall. Next action for the Spartan women's soccer team comes on
Sunday, September 14 when they travel to Carthage College. Game time is set for 1:00 p.m. in Kenosha, Wis.
