The newly renovated Thornton Gymnasium was the site of the 2014 Jim Coleman Memorial Classic hosted by the Aurora University volleyball team. AU went 2-0 on the opening day, defeating North Park University 3-1 and Beloit College 3-0.
In the opening match of the day, the Spartans coasted to a 3-1 win over the visiting Vikings from North Park with AU winning the first two sets 25-15 and 25-17. The third set saw the Spartans hold a late one point advantage before falling 27-25 but the young Spartans rebounded with a 25-15 fourth set win.

Lexi O'Boyle had 23 assists and 12 digs with the AU offense being led by junior
Lindsey Wille (10 kills, .219 hit percentage), freshman
Brooke Pylant (13 kills, .429 hit percentage) and freshman
Bailey Brothers (eight kills, .419 hit percentage). Junior
Destiny Stuersel had 20 assists in the match.
The second and final match of the day saw AU dominate in three sets for a 3-0 win over the Beloit College Buccaneers. Set scores were 25-19, 25-12, 25-10. Sophomore
Peyton McKenzie had a tremendous contest, finishing with 15 kills and a .737 kill percentage. Freshman
Nicole Kirsner had eight kills and O'Boyle added 21 assists.
With the sweep, AU is now 6-4 overall on the season. Next action for the Spartan volleyball team comes on
Saturday, September 13 when they host the Jim Coleman Memorial Classic. AU takes on the University of Dubuque (10:00 a.m.) and North Central College (2:00 p.m.) in Thornton Gymnasium.
