In a tightly played non-conference contest, the Aurora University men's soccer team used a late goal to overcome Millikin University 1-0 in Decatur, Illinois on Satirday, September 20.
Neither team found the back of the net in the first half as the teams went into halftime tied 0-0 with the Spartans holding a 5-4 advantage in shots but AU goalkeeper
Chris Donner came up with four saves.
While the teams were in the halftime session, lightning in the area forced a one-hour weather delay before the second half would get underway.
In the second half, the offense picked up with Millikin taking 10 shots and the Spartans taking eight.
On the Spartans 13th and final shot of the day, senior
Jason O'Brien put the games lone tally on the scoreboard at 85:29. He was assisted by
Steven Soderstrom on the play.
AU controlled the final few minutes of action for the win. The Spartans are now 5-1-2 overall on the season. Next action for the Spartan men's soccer team comes on
Tuesday, September 23 when they travel to Concordia University Chicago. Game time is set for 3:00 p.m. in River Forest, Illinois.
