The Aurora University men's soccer team took to the road for the 2014 Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference opener at Concordia University Chicago on Tuesday, September 23. AU lost 4-3 despite holding a two goal advantage midway through the second half.
AU took a 1-0 lead 12:41 into the game when they were the recipients of an own goal by the Cougars. Neither team would tally a goal for the remainder of the first half.
The Spartans struck again early in the second half, just 2:16 in with
Nick Cataldi assisting senior
Jason O'Brien for a 2-0 Spartan lead.
Only 3:30 later at 50:46, the Cougars would tally their first goal, beating Spartan goalkeeper
Chris Donner on a header.
In the 62nd minute the Spartans struck again. O'Brien this time earned the assist with freshman
Jacob Goehring scoring his second goal of the season.
Over the next 20 minutes of action, Concordia would tally three goals with the eventual game winning goal coming at 84:01.
Over the final six minutes the two teams would manage only one shot with AU's
Alberto Bustamante getting a scoring chance with 21 seconds to play that was stopped by the Cougar goalkeeper.
With the loss, AU is now 5-2-2 overall and 0-1 in the NACC. Next action for the Spartan men's soccer team comes on
Saturday, September 27 when they travel to Lakeland College. Game time is set for 3:30 p.m. in Plymouth, Wisconsin.
