After going 1-1 on the first day of the IIAC-NACC Challenge, the Aurora University volleyball team entered the second and final day looking to head home on a high note. AU went 1-1 again, losing the opening game 3-0 to Central College and beat Simpson College 3-2 in the final game of the day.
In the opener with Central, AU looked to avenge a loss to the Dutch earlier in the season. Central would knock off the Spartans in three sets, 25-16, 25-14, 25-20. The AU offense struggled at times only hitting .040 for the game with
Lindsey Wille leading the team with five kills and a .188 kill percentage.
In the final game of the day the Spartans needed to play come from behind ball for the victory. AU won the first set 25-20 before dropping the second and third sets 25-9 and 25-22. In the fourth set, AU jumped out early and won 25-10 to force the winner take all fifth set. In the fifth set, the Spartans would prove victorious 15-9.
Peyton McKenzie had 17 kills, a .368 kill percentage and 14 digs while
Brooke Pylant had 12 kills and 19 digs.
Lexi O'Boyle had 20 assists and
Andrea Kappelman had 23 digs.
With the split, AU is now 15-7 overall and 1-1 in the NACC. Next action for the Spartan volleyball team comes on
Friday, October 3 when they travel to Rockford University. Game time is set for 7:00 p.m. in Rockford, Illinois.
