The Aurora University women's basketball team used a hot shooting night and 53 points combined between junior guards
Shannon Koski and
Bethany Dorrington to defeat the Sabres of Marian University in Fond du lac, Wisconsin on Wednesday night 69-60.
AU shot 49-percent (24-49) which included going 10-of-16 from three-point range in the game enroute to the nine point win. Koski led all scorers with 37-points with a 13-of-22 shooting performance and five-of-eight from three-point range while Dorrington finished with a double-double of 16 points and 10 rebounds.
The Spartans led throughout and after the game was tied 2-2 the Spartans embarked on a 22-3 run to give themselves a 19-point lead with 7:27 to play in the opening half.
After Marian answered with a 22-14 run over the rest of the half but the Spartans maintained a double-digit lead going into halftime, 38-27.
The second-half saw the Spartans control the lead which never got any closer than seven points and for a vast majority of the half was a double-digit AU advantage.
In the final minutes as Marian attempted to cut into the AU lead, the Spartans went 8-of-11 from the free throw line to thwart the Sabre comeback try.
With the win, AU is now 5-11 overall and 5-6 in the NACC. Next action for the Spartan women's basketball team comes on
Saturday, January 17, 2015 when they travel to Lakeland College. Game time is set for 2:00 p.m. in Plymouth, Wisconsin.
