?For the second consecutive night the Aurora University hockey team took the No. 6 ranked Falcons of the University of Wisconsin River Falls into the third period either tied or in the lead. The second game of the series did not go the Spartans way though as they fell 3-1.
AU got on the scoreboard first this time as senior
Jimmie Perkins scored for the second straight night at 7:51 of the first period with an assist from
Justin Gregory. The goal gave AU goaltender
Griffin Strain an early lead to work with in net.
Strain made the lead hold up for the remainder of the opening period but 48 seconds into the second period the Falcons scored a power play goal to tie the contest 1-1.
Neither team found the back of the net with the puck over the final 19:12 of the second period and midway through the third period the game was still tied 1-1.
At 9:30 and on the power play, UW-River Falls tallied the go-ahead goal. The home team added a third goal later in the third for the eventual 3-1 score.
Strain finished the night with 24 saves.
With the loss, AU is now 1-11-1 in the NCAA and 6-12-1 overall. Next action for the Spartan hockey team comes on
Wednesday, January 7 when they travel to Concordia University Wisconsin. Game time is set for 7:30 p.m. in Mequon, Wisconsin.
