Spartans defeat Eagles in final seconds of second overtime

The Aurora University women's soccer team played host to their arch rival from Benedictine University in the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference Tournament on Sunday afternoon on Vago Field. The two teams did not disappoint the crowd as AU won 2-1 with a goal with 14 seconds left in the second overtime.

HOW IT HAPPENED
AU senior Nicci Bermudes got the scoring started 5:46 into the game with an assist from Lorelei Ritzert.
Benedictine tied the game up at 19:37 with a cross from Jackie Elzakhem to Taylor Pokorny.
Both teams had scoring chances the remainder of the first-half, second-half and both overtime sessions but could not capitalize.

A foul 45 yards out set up an AU free kick with time running down in the second overtime. Spartan Alisha Oseguera sent in the pass that found the right foot of Hannah Scahill for the game winning goal with 14 seconds to play.
 
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
With her goal, Bermudes now has 99 career goals, one shy of tying the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference record.

FOR THE SPARTANS                                                      
Bermudes scored her 30th goal of the season and 99th of her career.
Scahill recorded the game winning goal.
Ritzert and Oseguera had one assist each.
Caitlin deRuiter had one save in the winning effort.
 
FOR THE FOES
Taylor Pokornyi had one goal.
Jackie Elzakhem had one assist.
Maddie Frye had 15 saves.

 
UP NEXT
Next action for the Spartan women's soccer team comes on Wednesday, November 4 when they travel to Concordia University Wisconsin in the NACC Tournament semi-final. Game time is set for 2:00 p.m. in Mequon, Wisconsin.
