AU women drop NACC basketball opener

The Aurora University women's basketball team opened the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference portion of their schedule on Saturday afternoon. The Spartans fell to the Eagles of Benedictine University 65-47.

RECORDS: Aurora University 1-4 overall, 0-1 NACC; Benedictine University 4-1 overall, 2-0 NACC.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
Benedictine used a 10-2 run in the final five minutes of the first period to take an 18-9 lead.
The second period saw BU continue their run and lead 26-9 but AU closed out the period with a 13-5 run and trailed 31-22 at halftime.
AU continued to close the deficit in the third and got within six at 40-34 before trailing by six at the end of three, 42-36.
A 23-6 run by BU in the fourth put the game away as AU shot 2 of 12 before hitting their last two shots of the game.
AU was out rebounded 40-27 with the teams combining for 32 turnovers, 17 for AU and 15 for BU.
The Spartans shot 31.8-percent (14-of-44) from the field for the game while BU shot 45.2-percent (28-of-62).
 
FOR THE SPARTANS
Bethany Dorrington led all scorers with 18 points and six rebounds.
Mallory Cast had five points.
Kelly Evers had five points and four rebounds.
Anna Roszkowski had four points and four rebounds.

FOR THE FOES
Briana Hamilton had 13 points.
Nicole Botich had 10 rebounds and six points.
Jasma Williams had nine points.
Alanna Ferry had eight points.

Next action for the Spartan women's basketball team comes on Tuesday, December 1 when they host Concordia University Chicago. Tip-off is set for 5:15 p.m. in Thornton Gymnasium.
