Spartan women dominant in win over Rockford

The Aurora University women's basketball team hosted the Rockford University Regents in a Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference match-up that marked the final home event at AU in the 2015 season. The Spartans used a dominant first-half performance and a double-double from senior Anna Roszkowski to roll to a 69-49 victory.

HOW IT HAPPENED
After Rockford took a 2-0 lead on a pair of free-throws, the Spartans ran off a 14-0 run to lead 14-2 before finishing the first period up 18-5.
AU shot four-of-seven from three-point range in the opening period while Rockford went 1-of-16 from the field.
The Spartans continued to build on the lead and led by as many as 22 in the second period.
Heading into halftime, the Spartans led 37-18.
The third period saw the Regents begin with a 10-3 run and cut the deficit to 12 at 40-28.
AU answered with an 11-4 run and led by 19 after three, 53-34.
As Spartan Head Coach Brittany Carper turned to her reserves, AU built a 25-point lead midway through the final period, 64-39.
The Spartans would continue to hold a comfortable lead and win by 20, 69-49.

BEYOND THE BOX
AU limited Rockford to 1-of-16 shooting (6.3%) in the first period.
The largest lead for AU was 25 points late in the fourth period, 64-39.
AU out-rebounded Rockford 49-36.
The Spartans had 20 turnovers on the game to only 13 from Rockford.
AU moved the ball well on the day with 20 assists on 25 made baskets.
 
FOR THE SPARTANS
Anna Roszkowski had a double-double with 21 points and 11 rebounds.
Mallory Cast had 14 points on four-of-seven from three-point range.
Bethany Dorrington had 11 points, eight rebounds and five assists.
Kelly Evers had 11 points and eight rebounds.
 
FOR THE FOES
Amanda Davis had 12 points.
Mallorie Getzelman and Tajanae Key each had 11 points.
