Third period lead dissipates as AU falls at CUW

The Aurora University hockey team held a one goal lead entering the third period on Saturday night at Concordia University Wisconsin but a three goal period for the host Falcons did in the Spartans as AU fell 5-3.

HOW IT HAPPENED
AU got the scoring started with a power play goal from Rihards Marenis 2:09 into the game. Michael Mikulan and Tom Greene had assists.
Concordia scored the next two goals in the first period to take a 2-1 lead after one period.
At 3:58 in the second, AU's Justin Gregory knotted the game 2-2 with an even strength goal. Raurie Petrich and Marenis had assists.
The Spartans took the lead with their second goal of the period, the only scoring in the session. Tim Santopoalo tallied a power play goal at 19:39 with assists from Trevor Hoth and Ron Lingren.
The third period lead for AU last 4:02 before CUW scored to tie the game. The Falcons added two more goals in the period, one on a power play for a 5-3 final.
AU had a 20-18 shot advantage through the first two periods before CUW out shot AU 25 to 8 in the third period.

FOR THE SPARTANS
Rihards Marenis had one goal and one assist.
Justin Gregory had one goal.
Tim Santopoalo had one goal.
Trevor Hoth, Ron Lingren, Michael Mikulan, Rauri Petrich and Tom Greene all had one assist.
Jared Rutledge had 38 saves in the loss.

FOR THE FOES
ANdy Munroe had 25 saves and let up three goals.
Braden Crone had two goals and one assist.
Connor Hogg had two goals.

Next action for the Spartan men's hockey team comes on Wednesday, December 9 when they travel to Lake Forest College. Puck drop is set for 7:00 p.m. in Lake Forest, Illinois. The game is an outdoor game being played at The Winter Club. Parking is not available at The Winter Club, shuttles from the Lake Forest campus ice arena to The Winter Club will be provided.
