Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Spartans unable to slow hot shooting Regents

The Aurora University women's basketball team traveled to Rockford University on Tuesday night and ran into a hot shooting Regent team as the Spartans fell 75-60.

AU fell behind early with a 12-2 Regent run to start the game put the Spartans in come from behind mode immediately. Over the next nine minutes though the Spartans would claw back and cut the lead down to one (20-19) with a 17-8 run of their own.

After a three-point field goal by AU junior Bethany Dorrington at 7:36 on the game clock made the score 24-22 Rockford, the Regents got on a hot streak once again. The Spartans defense could not slow the Rockford offense who went on a 16-4 run to hold the games largest lead at 14 points (40-26).

Just before the half, Molly Rosenow hit a three for the halftime score of 40-29. AU junior Shannon Koski had 14 points in the first half for AU. Rockford shot 58.6 percent in the first half.

Unfortunately for the Spartans, the halftime intermission did not cool down the hot shooting Regents who came out of the half and with 13 minutes remaining opened the gam largest lead of 19 at 54-35.

Rockford continued to pressure the Spartans and expanded the lead to 27 (67-40) with 7:30 to play.

The Spartans did answer with a 20-8 run over the final 6:23 but the lead proved to be to much to overcome as the Spartans fell by the final score of 75-60.

Koski finished with a game high 28 points. With the loss, AU is now 6-15 overall and 6-10 in the NACC. Next action for the Spartan women's basketball team comes on Saturday, February 7, 2015 when they host Marian University. Game time is set for 2:00 p.m. in Thornton Gymnasium.
