The game was scoreless until Elmhurst tallied the first goal at 21:15 of the opening half. The Spartan answered quickly and often the rest of the half, scoring seven consecutive goals with the first coming from Kenny Hughes off an assist by Lexie Wright at 19:57. Shortly after, Hughes scored an unassisted goal to give the Spartans a lead they would not relinquish.

Spartan Rachel Cochran scored the third AU goal with Andrea Colford picking up the assist. Wright would score twice on even strength with Hughes getting her third goal to complete the hat trick with a man-up between the Wright tallies. Colford assisted Hughes. With 2:05 to play in the first, Colford completed the scoring in the half when she tallied a man-down goal.

Coming out of halftime with a six goal advantage, the Spartans maintained the lead until the home Bluejays struck first as they had done in the first with a goal at 24:37.

The score remained 7-2 over midway through the half before the Spartans struck for three straight goals to blow the game wide open.
