The Aurora University men's lacrosse team visited the Bulldogs of Adrian College at the Ultimate Sports Indoor Soccer Arena on
Monday, March 2, 2015 for the Spartan's first away game of the season and the first leg of the Spartans spring break trip. The Spartans fell to the Bulldogs 15-13.
Â
The Bulldogs were the first to strike after a miscue on the Spartan's end on the opening face-off. The Spartans answered quickly though as senior Max Olbriecht after running through the entire Bulldog defense on a man-up situation.
AU would take a 3-2 lead midway through the first quarter on back to back goals from seniors
Jordan Williams and
Garret Rosiek. But Adrian closed out the quarter on a 4-1 run which they extended to a 7-1 run into the second quarter. Obriecht added his second goal of the day for the only AU goal in the Adrian streak.
Â
Williams ended the Bulldog run with a goal with 3:47 left in the second before the teams went into halftime with Adrian leading 9-5.
However, the Spartans showed that they have genuine fight and by the end of the third they had rallied to have the score of 10-10, showcasing their high-powered offense led by four goals from sophomore
Jason Koziol. The intensity was there for both squads as the huddles broke with fifteen more minutes to decide the final to this back and forth fight.
Â
The fourth quarter was characterized as entertaining as both teams rallied back and forth until the final minutes. After Adrian took a 12-10 lead, AU tallied the games next two goals, coming off the sticks of Rosiek and sophomore
Bailey Smith. With five minutes to play, junior
Zach Henry scored to tie the game up again at 13-13.
But the final five minutes went in Adrian's favor as they scored twice for the eventual 15-13 final.
With the loss, AU is now 1-2 overall. Next action for the Spartan men's lacrosse team comes on
Wednesday, March 4, 2015 when they travel to Eastern University. Game time is set for 3:00 p.m. (EST) in St. Davids, Pennsylvania.
