The Aurora University men's lacrosse team visited the Eagles of Eastern University on Wednesday March 4, 2015 for the Spartan's fourth game of the season. A fourth quarter rally from Eastern proved to much for the Spartans who fell 11-7 in the first meeting between the Eagles and Spartans.
Â
The Spartans stepped onto the Eastern University campus with pouring rain and fairly mild temperatures. The Eagles were the first to strike but the Spartans scored shortly after with a goal from Jordan Williams. The Spartans scored three more times in the opening quarter to take a 4-3 lead. Goal scorers were Trevor McNamara, Bailey Smith and Nolan Miller.
Starting the second quarter the Spartans saw Eastern tie the game up at 4 before McNamara scored twice more to give the Spartans a 6-4 lead. The second goal came as the Spartans were playing a man-down. The Spartans seemed to rally behind freshman keeper Brian Richter who tallied seven of his seventeen saves throughout this game in the first-half.
Coming into the second half the Eagles came out hungry looking to change the momentum and score from the first half. The Eagles came out firing scoring three straight goals to take a 7-6 before the Spartans scored with sophomore Jason Koziol sending the game to a 7-7 tie through three quarters. McNamara assisted on the Koziol score..
The Eagles struck first in the fourth quarter with just under 12 minutes remaining to make the score 8-7. The Eagles showed why they have been ranked and receiving votes as one of the top teams in Division III, scoring three more times and not allowing the Spartans much room on the offensive end. When the final buzzer rang. AU fell 11-7.
With the loss, AU is now 1-3 overall. Next action for the Spartan men's lacrosse team comes on Saturday, March 7, 2015 when they travel to Wooster College. Game time is set for 1:00 p.m. (EST) in Wooster, Ohio.
